We have a herd of dairy goats and all the babies were bottle fed and weaned. All except for one momma goat (Amaranth or Ama) and her two babies Olivia and Dora. Ama is one of our best milkers (at least 1/2 a gallon a day) and its a huge loss to us if her babies are not weaned. We have been keeping the babies in a separate enclosure during the weaning period but we need to have that area for the chickens so I we need to move the babies into the main goat enclosure. We needed to find a solution to the problem of the babies who think they STILL need milk (they are just goat-pigs who are momma's girls - its emotional drinking!). This goat bag idea is not new, other people do this. This video shows how we did it DIY and how we had to adjust things to deal with the wily nature of the goat. We love our goats and no animals have been hurt during this process. The babies are WELL beyond the stage where they need milk and the mother SHOULD know better (the other moms push their weaned babies away, roughly). Its our hope that the babies change their relationship with their mother to one where they nuzzle and hug but do not nurse.
